I’m the former food and nutrition editor at Runner’s World, and I’ve been testing running gear-personally and professionally-for two decades. Over the decades, I’ve learned to love it and get better at it. I logged most of these miles during a mild Northeast winter, encountering mostly cold and wet conditions.Īlthough I hated running when I first joined the high school track team more than 20 years ago, I’ve never stopped doing it. Although I can’t control the weather, I don’t skip a run when it’s cold, rainy, hot, or snowy. Unlike many runners, I enjoy a good hill, so I made sure to test these shoes on flat and hilly terrains. I primarily run on pavement, but I also ran on the track for speed workouts and on a flat, gravel towpath. I took each pair of shoes-10 in total-on a variety of runs, over different terrain, at different paces, and in a range of weather conditions, logging about 20 miles in each pair. Inevitably, though, how the shoe fits and how it feels on the run depend on the wearer. Where possible, I looked at measurable parts of a shoe, including heel-to-toe offset (the height difference in millimeters between the heel and toe), the amount of padding around the ankle collar, and the type of upper construction. The experts I spoke to emphasized how important comfort and fit are-what might feel good for one pair of feet could be the worst thing for another. Testing shoes, as you can imagine, is very subjective. ![]() How I Tested The Best Women’s Running Shoes Perhaps the most significant differentiator is its weight: It’s an ounce less than the Brooks Ghost 15 and Glycerin 20 I tested, which meant a much quicker, less cumbersome ride. This trainer’s “Wave Plate” technology runs from the heel through the midfoot and supports a firm ride. There are certainly benefits to a carbon fiber-plated shoe, particularly in the racing world, thanks to the plate’s ability to improve energy return. It’s getting harder and harder to find a shoe that doesn’t have some sort of carbon fiber plate in it, whether it’s entirely carbon or a hybrid variation. However, Chaos Group says that it can also be used for rendering panoramas or animations in its own right, if you don’t mind the drop in image quality: it uses rasterisation, not ray tracing. It’s intended primarily for exploring scenes, providing a quick way to scout camera positions from which to launch final-quality renders using V-Ray’s standard render engines. More interestingly, SketchUp users also get some unique features of their own: notably, V-Ray Vision, a work-in-progress new real-time rendering mode. The update also introduces a new Sun and Sky model, which generates more physically accurate results than its predecessor, particularly when the sun is close to the horizon. Key changes include built-in layer-based compositing in the V-Ray Frame Buffer (VFB), and Light Mix, a Corona-Renderer-style system to adjust the intensity of lights in images without the need to re-render them. Another independent source of silica are the hydrothermal vents which spew water of extremely high temperature, silica content, and helium content, as well as many other minerals, into the ocean. Dissolution from the bottom sediments constitutes a source of silica for the water column which is not available for nitrate, phosphate or oxygen. Much of the silica thus falls to the bottom of the ocean and accumulates in the sediments. The deep-water masses that participate in the MOC have chemical, temperature and isotopic ratio signatures and can be traced, their flow rate calculated, and. However, silica in marine organisms is associated with skeletons rather than fleshy parts and so dissolves more slowly in the water. Subsurface distributions of silica look something like nitrate and phosphate and mirror oxygen since silica is also regenerated in situ below the euphotic zone. This nutrient is also depleted in surface waters similarly to nitrate and phosphate - completely depleted in downwelling areas and small but measurable quantities in upwelling areas. In seawater it is present as H2SiO4 (silicic acid) rather than silicate (SiO3), but many people use the term silicate. This indicates very stagnant deep waters.ĭissolved silica - non-conservative. In the Black Sea there is no oxygen (anoxic) but hydrogen sulphide is present instead (from reduction of sulphate by bacteria). However, low values of oxygen, such as those found in the North Pacific deep and intermediate layers, are an indication of waters that have been away from the sea surface for a long time. Also, since waters of different oxygen content mix, the age is not simply related to concentration. However, it is not a precise age tracer because the consumption rate is not a constant. Therefore, oxygenĬontent decreases with age, so it can be used in a rough way to date the water, particularly at depth where consumption is very small. Below the surface, oxygen concentration decays as a result of consumption by organisms and by oxidation of detritus (marine snow). ![]() Per cent saturation of oxygen depends strongly on temperature. The atmosphere is the primary source of oxygen in the ocean and surface waters are usually close to saturation. ![]() 9/7/2023 0 Comments Long sleeve graphic top![]() ![]() So, get going fellas, shop quality men's graphic t-shirts and tees from Old Navy. We did learn that to perform an update, the seat has to be removed and then a plug is removed that is located under the front seat. The update didn't take but a few minutes per bike, but we started talking and asking questions and time slipped away. I arrived a bit late, as Chase was performing the update to mxengineer1's EXR. We were all to meet at Briarcliff MX at 2 PM on Saturday. Mxengineer1 asked Jeremy (Briarcliff MX Track Owner) if we could use his WiFi near his house, and he agreed. Briarcliff MX Track was open over the weekend, which is a halfway point, so we decided to all meet there. Thanks to Chase for offering to meet myself and mxengineer1 (who also needed the update on his EXR) somewhere halfway. Also, Action Extreme Sports is just over 2 hours away, making it even more inconvenient. It has to be performed by a trained Technician using their laptop. Unfortunately at this time, Alta will not allow owners to perform updates. It was OK to keep riding and charging the bike, which I did. I never received the fault, but Alta wanted the update done as soon as reasonably possible. ![]() From my understanding, the update is in regards to a fault code some owners were getting when charging. In fact, I think I will go out now for a quick ride before bed!Ībout a week ago, Chase from Action Extreme Sports notified me that my EXR required a Firmware Update. So far I've been really pleased with the bike, and have ridden it every day since purchase. I haven't taken the EXR to a moto track yet, but hope to do so soon. I have a MX background, but opted for the EXR due to its versatility of being road capable. I'm coming off a '17 Husqvarna TX300 that I sold a few months back. I also lost one of the M5X12mm fasteners that holds the rear fender extension to the fender. I lowered the pedal and added some play, works well for me now. I disassembled the brake arm pivot, and wiped away what appeared to be a thick, white lithium grease, and applied Honda Spray White Lithium Grease, which appears thinner. I can now carry my weed eater, take the garbage can to and from the street (~400 foot driveway), get the mail, and haul watering pails for my wife's flowers,Ĭoncerns: The rear brake pedal feels sticky. Since you don't have to use a clutch, this frees up your left hand. Versatility: I'm finding myself using this vehicle to haul things around the property. Most of my road riding has been in Mode 1. The Metzler knobbies wonder a bit, but this is expected. On the road: The EXR doesn't have bead locks, which makes it smoother on the road. This was from a full charge in the morning. Total mileage for the day was 35.8 miles. When the EXR would not exceed a top speed 8 MPH, I stopped. In the evening I rode into town and back, then starting riding laps in the yard (various Modes). Range: Last Friday I rode to and from work (20.6 miles round trip, Mode 1 at 55 MPH). Anyway, he invited me to ride the trails in the back woods of his property, due to the quietness of the bike. I told him it was an electric bike, and asked if the noise bothered him. He stopped his zero turn and watched me for a while, then he waved me over to his property. The next morning, my wife asked if I really rode that late at night, which I did.Ī couple of days later, I was riding in my yard when I noticed my neighbor mowing his yard. It was one of those rare cool Ohio skies in which you could see a ton of stars and the bands of the Milky Way, a great riding experience! I rode in modes 1 & 2 for a half hour, put the bike away, and went inside to see how noisy the bike was. My wife and daughter go into the house, and I start riding around our property (just over 4 acres) with several passes close to our bedroom. I decide to take the bike for a test ride in the yard. We worked out some numbers, and my family and I loaded up and headed to New Philly to pick it up. I noticed that there was another EXR behind his. ![]() On Friday, July 6, mxengineer1 (a friend and colleague) texted me a photo of an Alta EXR that he was about to purchase from Jeff at Action Extreme Cycles in New Philadelphia, Ohio. ![]() |
